It is designed for acquiring resting ECG signals and is particularly suitable for use with Philips ECG devices such as the PageWriter TC series cardiographs, where it is listed as an optional supply part.

Its key feature is a self-retaining suction mechanism consisting of a rubber squeeze bulb and a metal cup. The rubber squeeze bulb provides sufficient suction to hold the electrode firmly on a patient for chest (precordial) lead placements without causing discomfort.
